Recollect is proud to announce its recent partnership with ‘Ulu‘ulu, the moving image archive dedicated to preserving the unique cultural history of Hawai‘i.

This collaboration aims to support ‘Ulu’ulu’s mission to perpetuate and share the rich heritage of Native Hawaiians and the diverse communities of Hawai‘i.

‘Ulu‘ulu, housed under the Academy for Creative Media System at the University of Hawai‘i – West O‘ahu, serves as a pivotal institution in archiving the extensive film and videotape that chronicles Hawai‘i’s past and present. Its collection is an assembly of voices, stories, and communities that encapsulate the spirit and traditions of the Hawaiian Islands.

Recollect will provide industry-leading digital preservation tools to help ‘Ulu‘ulu further enhance the accessibility and longevity of its collections, ensuring the historically significant material is preserved for future generations and easily discoverable to the public, researchers, and educators worldwide.

"‘Ulu‘ulu has digitized and preserved over 7,500 reels of film and videotape that reveal the political, cultural and historical landscape of these islands. I am so thrilled that our collections will soon be accessible through the Recollect platform so that we can continue to help bring Hawai‘i’s history alive through archival film."
